Our charity partnerships

At Bute Energy, we take pride in our unwavering commitment to supporting Welsh communities. We recognise the vital role that charitable organisations play in fostering well-being and resilience across our nation. That’s why we’re thrilled to be able to be able to set up Bute Energy charity partnerships in Wales for a term of three years.

Our charity partnerships, launched in 2023, are designed to make a transformative impact on the communities we serve. By aligning our efforts with charities that share our mission, we aim to address key themes such as mental health, rural support, cost of living and sustainability.

Our chosen charities

Montgomeryshire Family Crisis Centre supports women, men and children experiencing or affected by domestic abuse in North Powys. Through specialist support, refuge and outreach services, education and awareness-raising, the charity helps people reduce risk, rebuild their lives and move towards safe, healthy futures.

Carers Trust Wales works to transform the lives of unpaid carers through partnership, evidence, influence and innovation. Working with local carer organisations across Wales, it helps strengthen support and ensure carers are heard, valued and able to access the advice, services and resources they need.

Michelle Byrne, Business Manager at Bute Energy:

“Being part of the Bute Energy charity partnerships in Wales has been incredibly fulfilling. It’s inspiring to see the positive impact we’re making, not just financially, but through the connections and awareness we’re raising for these crucial causes.”

“Fundraising alongside staff brings the whole business together and on several occasions colleagues have got their friends and family involved in the activities.  From quiz nights to physical challenges – we ensure there’s something for everyone to take part in and to help staff feel like they are contributing directly or indirectly.”

Why does Bute Energy have charity partners?

Our Welsh charity partnerships are not just about fundraising—they’re about building lasting relationships and enhancing the well-being of our staff and communities. This initiative is a mutual benefit, allowing our team to connect deeply with the causes they care about whilst organisations are able to continue or enhance the services they offer those who need it the most. Fundraising can build a community of like-mined individuals and connect them through a common cause, giving them the opportunity to make a profound and lasting difference.

In fact, there is scientific proof that helping others boosts our mood by releasing neurochemicals in our brain that make us feel happy.  Actively participating in the community is proven to have long term benefits to our physical and emotional health. And giving back to our community makes us feel productive and connected to the people we’re surrounded by.

Further to this, participating in fundraising events with our colleagues helps our future employees and partners understand more about who we are at Bute Energy.  We strive to put the community at the heart of everything we do and engaging with charities and organisations is one way of achieving this.  We’re recognised for our courage and passion – safe to say we’re a competitive lot – we commit to putting our all into supporting our chosen charity organisations for three whole years.

Why do Bute Energy’s charity partnerships last three years?

We choose to work with our charity partners for three years because meaningful impact takes time.

A longer partnership gives us more time to understand each organisation, raise more money and identify opportunities that go beyond donations. It also provides greater certainty for charities and reduces the burden of repeatedly seeking new support.

How have Bute Energy fundraised in the past?

The partnerships build on our previous partnerships with The DPJ Foundation and St David’s Hospice Care during 2023-2026.  Through various fundraising activities, including sporting challenges and local engagements, our people raised £30,000 through a series of fundraising challenges and events.

Spinathon (July 2024): Our staff took to their bikes in Cardiff and at home, cycling non-stop for 24 hours to cover the distance of the Wales Coastal Path.
Quiz Evening (September 2024): Friends and family joined us for a fun-filled evening of trivia.
Touch Rugby Tournament (October 2024): Groups and individuals joined our touch rugby tournament.
