Last Wednesday we had a fantastic afternoon as we dove headfirst into a whirlwind of volunteering around the proposed Llyn Lort site. Our team split into two groups, one paying a visit to the Welshpool RFC grounds and another team joined the TRAMPS on a canal adventure.
Armed with brushes and buckets of paint, our first team of volunteers spruced up the changing rooms with gusto, ensuring every corner gleamed with freshness.
But they didn’t stop there! With Newtown’s local derby on the horizon, they rolled up their sleeves and gave the stand a vibrant makeover.

Meanwhile, across in Arddleen, another group joined forces with the Canal & River Trust Volunteer Towpath Taskforce, fondly known as TRAMPS. Their mission? To breathe new life into a path along the canal, a project five years in the making. Despite being dubbed as 60+, these TRAMPS exuded the vigor of 20-year-olds, and our gang had quite the adventure keeping up!
From hauling materials to and fro along the canal to enjoying the occasional lift, it was a day full of hard work, stories and laughter.

The day wasn’t just about painting walls or laying paths; it was a celebration of community spirit and the joy of lending a helping hand. I do not think there was one of us who came away from that day who wasn’t reminded of exactly why we are doing what we do and who it really is for. My thanks to the TRAMP’s and the team for making it such a memorable day.
