Spotlighting our partnership with FAW ahead of the Bute Energy Women’s Welsh Cup Final.
As we look ahead to the Bute Energy Women’s Welsh Cup Final on 19 April 2026 at Rodney Parade, our partnership with the Football Association of Wales (FAW) continues to demonstrate the power of long-term investment in women’s and girls’ football. Some might say.. together – stronger(!).
Since 2023, our collaboration with the FAW has focused on creating meaningful, lasting impact – enhancing opportunities for players, raising the profile of domestic competitions, and helping to secure a sustainable future for the women’s game across Wales.
This partnership has already delivered tangible results. Over the past three seasons, the competition has seen record numbers of team entries, growing attendances at the final – even surpassing those of the men’s competition – and increasing television audiences. These milestones reflect not only the growth of the game, but the appetite for women’s football across Cymru.

FAW CEO Noel Mooney reflected on the journey so far:
“Bringing Bute Energy on board as the title sponsor of the FAW Women’s Cup and FAW Girls’ Cup was a groundbreaking moment as it represented the first partnership of its kind for both competitions. The sponsorship has helped raise the profile of the women’s domestic game, empower our players and promote gender equality.
“During the last three seasons of the Bute Energy partnership, the Women’s Cup has seen a record number of team entries each year, attracted record crowds for the finals at Rodney Parade – exceeding the attendances in our men’s competition – and received increasing television viewing figures.
“As the women’s and girls’ game in Cymru continues to grow, with a strategic milestone of 20,000 registered players reached at the end of last year, Bute Energy have been a valued partner along this journey.”
FAW’s sustainability strategy
Our shared vision extends beyond the pitch. Through the FAW’s sustainability strategy, ‘Cymru, Well-being and the World’, the game is becoming a platform for wider positive change — from environmental responsibility to community development and social impact.
The FAW team have introduced a 20,000-strong female honeybee hive at Hensol and programmes like Coaching HER Forward are helping to build a stronger, more inclusive future for the sport. Alongside this, the BE. Football mentoring programme continues to support women entering the game, with the majority of participants progressing into full-time roles in football.
