Recreation at our energy parks

We want our energy parks to do more than generate clean power we want them to be places where people can enjoy the outdoors.

Each energy park is unique, so our recreation plans will be shaped by the local landscape, existing paths and facilities, and the needs of the community.

By improving access and facilities, we can support healthier lifestyles, attract visitors, and showcase the natural beauty of the area creating long-term benefits for both communities and the local economy.

Our aim is to make it easier for people to enjoy quality green spaces and outdoor activities, while protecting the environment and respecting the character of each area.

We will aim to:

  • Increase access to enjoyable and safe outdoor spaces.
  • Make sure recreation fits in with local wildlife, landscapes, and cultural heritage.
  • Support a mix of activities and users, while managing any issues from unauthorised use.
  • Provide the right infrastructure and resources to make recreation welcoming for everyone.
  • Explore options such as upgrading or maintaining Public Rights of Way (PROWs), creating new permissive paths or circular routes, adding clear signage, seating, and viewpoints, and linking routes to nearby villages or public transport.
  • Not every idea will work everywhere, but we’ll look for what makes sense locally.

We’ll work with contracted environmental consultants, local authority Public Rights of Way teams, and landowners to identify what’s possible.

We’ll also collaborate with local and national groups such as the British Horse Society, rambling clubs, Seiclo Cymru, and others to make sure a wide range of voices are heard.

Community feedback will help us prioritise ideas and choose the ones that are practical for each site. We’ll also review recreational access over time to keep it relevant and useful.

You can share your thoughts at our in-person community consultation events or by emailing us your ideas using CICteam@bute.energy

Local knowledge is invaluable you know the routes, spaces, and facilities that matter most. Whether it’s suggesting a new link, highlighting a well-loved path, or pointing out a place that could be improved, your input will help shape our plans.

Our commitment.

We’re committed to open, ongoing conversations with communities.

By improving access and facilities, we can help support healthier lifestyles, attract visitors, and showcase the natural beauty of each area creating long-term benefits for both residents and the local economy.
