Twyn Hywel Energy Park Update: Contractors appointed and site works begin

Twyn Hywel Energy Park progress is powering ahead, as we begin the first on-site works for our flagship renewable energy project in Caerphilly.

This milestone signals the start of a transformative journey for the region. With 14 wind turbines, Twyn Hywel will generate enough clean, green electricity to power the equivalent of 81,000 homes every year by 2027. It’s a vital part of our work to help meet Wales’ renewable energy ambitions – driving progress that benefits people, places, and the planet.

Following approval by the Welsh Government in November 2024, Twyn Hywel becomes the first of our energy parks to move into construction. It’s a bold step forward – not just for us, but for the communities we’re proud to work alongside.

Welcoming Terra Firma On Board

We’re proud to be working with Terra Firma (Wales) Ltd, a Cardiff-based contractor with strong local roots and a proven track record in environmental and infrastructure work.

We’ve appointed Terra Firma to lead the initial ground investigations at the Twyn Hywel site. Their local knowledge and expertise are invaluable, and their appointment reflects our commitment to keeping investment in Wales wherever we can. It’s part of our wider mission to make sure the transition to clean energy also creates real, lasting benefits for Welsh workers, businesses, and communities.

A Clean Energy Future, Built Together

Twyn Hywel is part of our growing pipeline of renewable energy projects across Wales – together capable of generating more than 2.2GW of clean electricity by 2030. That’s enough to power over 2.25 million homes and support up to 2,000 jobs.

We’re here to make sure that progress delivers real, lasting impact for local people. That’s why we’re setting up a Community Benefit Fund worth around £693,000 each year, to invest in community priorities, skills, and economic opportunity. From day one, we’re focused on working together—with councils, organisations, and communities – to shape a future we can all be proud of.

Powered by People, Driven by Purpose

Caerphilly’s valleys helped power the world once before – and now, they’re leading the charge again.

As we move forward with Twyn Hywel, we’re excited to be entering a new phase: not just for our energy park, but for what it can mean to the people and places that surround it. We’ll continue listening, collaborating, and building strong partnerships every step of the way.
