Caerphilly residents invited to shape £700k Community Benefit Fund

What is the Caerphilly community grant fund?

The Community Benefit Fund has been established by us at Bute Energy to ensure communities living near our energy parks benefit directly and meaningfully from the transition to clean energy. 

Twyn Hywel Energy Park in south east Wales will be our first operational energy park and the connected Community Benefit Fund will support a wide range of local initiatives, from improving shared spaces to backing projects that strengthen wellbeing, skills and sustainability – helping communities thrive now and for generations to come. 

Who can apply to help shape the Twyn Hywel’s Community Benefit Fund?

Up to 12 local residents will be appointed to the community panel. Applications are open to people aged 18 or over who live locally to Twyn Hywel Energy Park and are passionate about the future of their community. 

The roles are voluntary, and no previous experience is required. Full guidance, training and support will be provided by Bute Energy and the fund’s experienced Board of Trustees. 

How much funding is available for Caerphilly communities?

The fund will provide £704,000 every year, offering significant, long‑term investment into Caerphilly and nearby areas for the full lifetime of the energy park. 

This consistent annual funding creates opportunities for lasting impact – supporting both established local initiatives and new ideas that respond to community needs.

What types of community projects can be supported?

Funding may support projects including: 

• Community facilities and shared spaces 

• Environmental and sustainability initiatives 

• Skills training and education projects 

• Wellbeing, health and recreation activities 

• Local culture and community‑led programmes 

Each year, funding decisions will be guided by local insight, ensuring grants reflect the priorities and aspirations of the people who know the area best. 

Building a lasting local legacy

We’re already laying strong foundations for long‑term community benefit. Investment includes supporting world champion boxer and community advocate Lauren Price, backing women’s football, netball and Young Farmers’ clubs, and creating a dedicated Youth Advisory Board – reflecting a commitment to represent both current and future generations.
