Aber Valley Male Voice Choir surprise Caerphilly shoppers with flashmob performance

Shoppers in Caerphilly town centre were treated to a heartwarming surprise recently as Aber Valley Male Voice Choir delivered an unexpected flashmob performance.
The spontaneous musical moment drew crowds and created a buzz across the town, as around 20 choir members performed well-loved songs including Any Dream Will Do and Sweet Caroline.
The performance, held outside Castle Court, brought people together through music, creating a moment of joy that reflected the relationships we are building connected to our flagship Twyn Hywel Energy Park currently being built at Eglwysilan Common.
Delivering social value in the Aber Valley
Through our Social Value Standard, 2% of our suppliers’ contract value is reinvested directly into local communities, supporting organisations, projects, and initiatives that matter most to local people.
As part of this, one of our suppliers – Cardiff based comms agency Grasshopper Communications collaborated with Aber Valley Male Voice Choir to design and develop a new website, helping the choir to:
- Promote their performances
- Reach wider audiences locally and beyond
- Encourage new members to join and sustain Welsh musical traditions
This performance in the town centre has been recorded and will be published on the choir’s new website very soon.
How was the choir’s website designed and built?
Grasshopper Communications first met with Aber Valley Male Voice Choir in late 2025 after members of Bute Energy’s Community Investment team identified an opportunity to support a local organisation.
The choir’s website hadn’t been updated since the COVID-19 pandemic and therefore still advertised an out of date rehearsal location, dates, times and suggested the choir were still meeting under covid restrictions.
After lots of discussion getting to know the choir’s goals and capabilities with running a website – Grasshopper Communications were able to redesign and rebuild a website optimised for their needs.
