As of 1 August 2025, we’re now inviting local communities and stakeholders to give their views on the early proposals for Waun Hesgog Energy Park, a proposed onshore wind development in Ceredigion, around 17km north-east of Aberystwyth.

The project could generate enough clean, green electricity to power the equivalent of nearly 176,597 homes – helping to tackle the climate crisis, reduce reliance on imported gas, and create lasting local benefits.

The Community Benefit Fund could support local priorities, services, and groups, and we want local voices to help shape how it’s designed and delivered. Alongside this, our Community Investment team is exploring how the project can support:

• Jobs and skills for local people

• Opportunities for Welsh businesses

• Improved access to nature and the local environment

The project is at an early stage, and we’re keen to hear from you. This non-statutory consultation is a chance for communities to review the initial plans and share feedback before detailed proposals are developed.

We’ve launched a digital consultation hub and survey, and we’ll also be speaking directly with residents and community representatives in the coming weeks via a webinar on 14 August at 6pm-7pm, and in person at a drop-in session at Tal-y-Bont Memorial Hall on 19 August between 2-6pm.

What happens next?

We’ll soon be submitting a request for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Scoping Direction, and the design will continue to evolve in response to technical work and the feedback received through this consultation.

As a proposed Development of National Significance (DNS), the final application for Waun Hesgog Energy Park will be submitted to Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) at a later date following a formal statutory consultation.  Once with PEDW – the final decisions will be made by Welsh Ministers within Welsh Government.
