Bute Energy Share Plans for New Ceredigion Onshore Wind Project
Waun Hesgog Energy Park could power nearly 176,600 homes.
This June 2025, we’ve announced early plans for our latest onshore wind project called Waun Hesgog Energy Park, located in Ceredigion. The proposed energy park could generate enough clean, green electricity to power the equivalent of nearly 176,597 homes.
While the project is still in its early stages, and not yet in public consultation, we’re keen to ensure that local people and communities have an early understanding of the energy park. Over the coming months, the team will be starting conversations in the area and launching a digital survey to gather feedback on the initial proposals.

This energy park is proposed to be built 17km north-east of Aberystwyth.
Early park designs include 37 turbines.
Which would be enough to power around 176,000 homes.
Local communities could access grant funding of up to £1.8m worth every year.
As part of the project, a Community Benefit Fund is planned which could deliver up to £1.8 million per year for the lifetime of the energy park. Local residents, groups, and services are encouraged to help shape this fund, ensuring it reflects the priorities of the community.
In addition to the fund, the Community Investment team are committed to creating pathways for local people to gain employment, creating opportunities for local and Welsh business, and improving access to nature.

The project is classed as a Development of National Significance (DNS). This means that we must submit a DNS application to Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) for consideration and decisions are made by Welsh Ministers.
But before we reach that milestone, we’ll shortly be submitting a request for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Scoping Direction to Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW).
The detailed design of the energy park will evolve over the coming months whilst we seek feedback from local people and statutory consultees to inform this initial work, alongside ongoing environmental and technical assessments.

The site is proposed to be located approximately 17km north-east of Aberystwyth in Ceredigion, with additional land at Moel Y Llyn extending into Powys.
