New Partnership with Bee1 to Drive Sustainability and Female Leadership in Wales

We’re excited to announce a new partnership with Bee1, a pioneering Welsh organisation dedicated to environmental sustainability, biodiversity, and female leadership. This collaboration marks a significant step in our ongoing engagement with like-minded, bold Welsh businesses and the great Welsh communities we work with, while advancing the transition to a clean, green, and sustainable future for Wales.

Our partnership with Bee1 reinforces our commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement as we develop onshore wind projects across Wales. By working together, we are not only helping to tackle the climate crisis but also creating a lasting legacy of responsible energy development that supports the natural world and local communities.

Bee1, a trusted leader in the UK’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) landscape, is known for its innovative initiatives to protect and promote biodiversity. Their work focuses on addressing the alarming decline of pollinators, particularly bees, which are now classified as the most important animals on the planet. Bee1’s efforts to provide suitable habitats for bees and educate communities about their critical role in maintaining healthy ecosystems align perfectly with our goals.

Empowering the Next Generation of Female Leaders
One of the key elements of our partnership with Bee1 is our shared commitment to empowering women and girls to pursue careers in the renewable energy sector. In collaboration with Bee1, we will bring the “Bee1 Experience” to two of our community partners over the coming months. These visits will highlight the queen bee’s leadership within the hive as a powerful metaphor for female leadership in business, inspiring the next generation of women to take on leadership roles in a net-zero future.

Catryn Newton adds:

“I’m grateful to Mark and the team at Bee1 for supporting us on our mission to increasing the number of women and girls who pursue a career in renewables. We’ve consistently advocated for women and girls in our industry and how we want to empower more of them to join a net zero workforce for Wales. This partnership has drawn our attention to the important role of females in the hive how we can draw comparisons between their qualities and the resilience and leadership women bring to the world of business. I look forward to sharing these powerful lessons with our staff and partners in the community.”

Securing a Future for Wales and Its Pollinators
The partnership also includes the installation of a Bute Energy-branded beehive housing 20,000 bees, purchased from Bee1. This initiative is part of our broader efforts to contribute to biodiversity and secure the survival of these vital pollinators, which are crucial to maintaining a stable climate and a thriving economy.

Bees are essential to the pollination of 75% of the crops consumed by humans, playing a vital role in the health of ecosystems and the global food supply. Unfortunately, bee populations are in severe decline, putting the environment and our economy at risk. Our collaboration with Bee1 is a small but meaningful step towards reversing this trend and ensuring a sustainable future for Wales.

Mark Douglas, Former Director of NatWest Bank across Wales and Chairman/Founder of NatWest Cymru and now Founder of Bee1, said:

“At Bee1, we’re deeply committed to fostering sustainability, biodiversity, and female leadership within our communities. Partnering with Bute Energy is an exciting step forward in our mission to protect the environment and inspire future generations. Together, we are not only safeguarding vital pollinators like bees but also empowering women and girls to lead in the renewable energy sector. This collaboration exemplifies our shared vision of a sustainable future for Wales, where innovation and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.”

Driving Forward the Transition to Clean Energy

By combining our efforts in renewable energy development with Bee1’s expertise in biodiversity and environmental education, we are creating a powerful synergy that will benefit the environment, the economy, and future generations.
We are excited to embark on this journey with Bee1 and look forward to sharing more about our progress as we work together to build a brighter, greener future for Wales.
