Building a Skilled Workforce to Deliver Onshore Wind

This panel discussion featuring Scottish Renewables, the Scottish Government, Optimat, Hitachi Energy, and Vattenfall on day 2 of the conference is particularly relevant to us. We recently launched our Net Zero Skills Strategy, a comprehensive initiative aimed at addressing the significant green energy skills gap in Wales. By driving education and recruitment in renewable energy, we will not only be supporting our own portfolio but also paving the way for future renewable projects across Wales and the UK.  We’re eager to learn how others in the industry are developing the local workforce so that we can ensure that Wales can lead in the renewable energy transition.

How Onshore Wind Can Address the Climate and Nature Crises

With speakers from ScottishPower, SSE, DNV, Environment Systems, and RSPB, this session on day 1 addresses a critical concern for Bute Energy: the intersection of renewable energy development and biodiversity preservation. Many of our projects are planned for areas in Wales rich in natural beauty and biodiversity, including regions home to red kites and peatlands. We’ve conducted extensive research and analyses with LUC to understand how we can mitigate or minimize any impact on these sensitive ecosystems. We hope to learn how the industry is developing projects that respect and protect the natural environment.

How Aviation and Wind Can Work Together

The panel discussion with RUK, the UK Civil Aviation Authority, DESNZ, RES, and Extensity Consulting is also of great interest to us. Bute Energy and other developers looking to build projects in Wales are anxious explore solutions alongside the Welsh Government and airport operators to overcome challenges that are currently delaying progress.  The aim is to ensure that the critical wind energy projects progress, helping Wales to achieve its renewable energy targets and secure a sustainable future.
