Celebrating Success: Catrin Leader Wins Outstanding Personal Contribution Award

We are thrilled to announce that Catrin Leader, Bute Energy’s Education Lead, has been honoured with the Outstanding Personal Contribution Award at the Valued Partner Awards 2025 hosted by Careers Wales. Catrin shared the award with Gwenno Angharad Williams from Gwynedd Council. The ceremony, held at the Senedd building in Cardiff Bay on January 15th, recognised the exceptional contributions of businesses and individuals working to inspire the next generation and bridge the gap between education and the world of work. 

A Commitment to Inspiring the Next Generation

Catrin’s recognition is a testament to her unwavering dedication to supporting young people in Wales through Bute Energy’s school engagement programme. Since joining Bute Energy in 2024, Catrin has played a pivotal role in delivering our Net Zero Skills Strategy, a comprehensive initiative launched in November 2024. This strategy ensures that children are actively engaged with climate change and sustainability in creative, informative ways, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to shape a greener future. 

Under Catrin’s leadership, our school engagement programme has reached over 7,000 pupils across Wales. Through interactive workshops, engaging lessons on renewable energy and sustainability, and collaboration with school Eco Councils, we are committed to fostering awareness about climate change from an early age. Catrin has spearheaded a range of activities, from site visits to problem-solving challenges, all designed to inspire and motivate students to become ethically informed citizens who are ready to make a positive impact on the planet. 

Empowering the Future Workforce

As part of Bute Energy’s commitment to building a skilled and sustainable workforce, we have been providing students with hands-on experiences that prepare them for future careers in the renewable energy industry. Our Work Experience Programme, open to pupils from Year 10 onwards, offers young people invaluable opportunities to explore the world of work, develop key skills, and gain insight into potential career paths. To date, we have welcomed 27 students to our offices in Cardiff and Builth Wells, giving them a taste of real-life industry experience. 

Catrin has been instrumental in facilitating this programme, working closely with schools to ensure students have access to meaningful work placements that can shape their career aspirations. By connecting students with experienced colleagues and providing them with opportunities to engage in real-world problem-solving, we aim to inspire the next generation of creative, enterprising contributors.
